Indonesia Ranked 17 in Asia

logo-fifa.jpgAfter tremendous performance in Asia Cup last July 2007, Indonesia was ranked 20th in the 2010 World Cup preliminary round. Indonesia should faced Guam at the preliminary round, scheduled between 8 and 10 August 2007 for the 1st phase. the 2nd phase of the round should be held this weekend after Lebaran holiday.
It is a fortunate that Guam resigned from the 2010 World Cup preliminary round. Indonesia players have more time to focus on the domestic league and also gave a benefit for Indonesia’s rank in FIFA and AFC standings. Indonesia is now ranked 17th in AFC standings and 126th in FIFA standings.46 points was awarded to Indonesia and Indonesia pushed Singapore away from the 17th place down to 21st place. It is possible that Singapore will regain its former position since the country has just beat Palestine in the 2010 World Cup preliminary round in Palestine. The second phase in Singapore is likely going to be an easy win for the home team. Indonesia reached the 76th place in September 1998 as the highest standing this country ever achieved in FIFA standings, while the lowest rank was 153rd in December 2006.
